The Journey

I get paid to be here....

I live in a small town and there is a YMCA about 2 miles from my house.  I'm very lucky.  Last night we had snow.  Which may not sound like a big deal but we have had a very mild winter.  The only appreciable snowfall we've had was last Halloween!!  Last night we picked up a couple inches.  And on Saturdays, the Y has classes starting at 9 a.m. and the pool is packed, mainly with kids, for the day.  So, in order to get some pool time in, I need to be there right when it opens at 7:00 a.m.   Last week I pulled up and there were about 6-7 cars in the lot and the doors were just opening.  Today I pulled up, it's snowing, the roads are wet but not icy and there are 2 cars in the lot.  I walk in and say to the desk person "it's just you, me and the lifeguard isn't it?"  And she laughs and goes "yes, and we get paid to be here!"  And I fully understood why some of my friends think I'm nuts!!!  But I had my pick of lanes!!!

I'm getting more comfortable in the pool.  Having Wendy is good because her forte is swimming but unfortunately, she is 2000 miles away.  While I would love to have her closer, I am fortunate to have her at all.  I'm struggling with the breathing thing.  Though I did realize that part of the issue is that I am not fully exhaling before I take in more air.  Which results in me not getting enough air in each time and I "run out" of air.  I did email Wendy about it and she said since I'm aware of it, that will help quite a bit in my learning to get past it.  And, of course, she had some great suggestions.

I did have someone video me swimming and sent that to Wendy.  Her response?  "Decent, you look like you're swimming :) ".  I just laughed.  While I still have an occasional doubt that I won't be ready for my "A" race, she has said, more than once "you'll be ready".  It's amazing how calming that is to hear from her.  I do trust her.

I am currently working on the Total Immersion lessons and some drills Wendy gave me.  I had my last swim lesson with Erin this past week.  She was great, loved working with her.  Next week, I'm going to hook up with my friend, Sarah.  She has won the local Y women's sprint triathlon the last 3 out of 4 years.  As Erin said, "she knows what she's doing!".  I'm very excited.  I already told her what Wendy has me working on and I know Sarah will help me to continue to progress.

So, I'm swimming 5-6 days/week and running 2-3 and biking 2-3.  I have been doing core work and strength work but that will shift when I get P90X2.  I can't wait for that!!  It will be nice to have Wendy just organize everything for me and I just have to "do".

I'm loving the training and learning how it all comes together.  I know there will continue to be good as well as bad days.  But as long as I remember to trust my training, I know it will all be good in the end.
