I decided to switch things slightly around on the cleanse. I started the day with an apple and coffee. I am NOT a black coffee drinker and many of the folks who do this cleanse do not use coffee at all. I choose to drink it because I felt it wouldn't impact the reason I was doing the cleanse. I may, in the future, do a cleanse and eliminate caffeinee, but today wasn't the day.
I then went for a 3 mile walk with a friend. It was on a flat trail but I wanted to go to see how my knee is doing. It was fine, a little twinge here and there but no pain. I have one more week of "no lower body work" and then an "easy" bike ride. Can't wait for that!
Got back about 9:30 and had my 1st shakeology drink at 10. I added a banana to it and some flax seed. I know flax seed has omega 3 in it which help with inflammation. I had increased my fish oil this week, since in the past I have had good results in taking it when I've had joint inflammation. I then grabbed a large bottle of water and was out the door. I had some work to do in my wood shop and it wasn't until about 2 that I realized that I was not hungry. However, I also knew I would get hungry soon. I wasn't too surprised, since I've gone for 4-5 hours after only having a shakeology drink and not felt overly hungry.
One of the things I was worried about, doing this cleanse, was running out of energy from lack of fuel. When I first started losing weight and lifting weights, over a year ago, I would finish work, and literally fall asleep in a chair when I sat down after work. It took me some time to figure out what to eat and when and how much. Then I added cardio into my workout and it changed again. And when I started training with Kris on endurance work, I went through it all again. However, by this point, I had learned what worked and I had the benefit of Kris' knowledge. And when I started drinking shakeology, this summer, I remember the first week, I realized I wasn't hungry a couple hours after lunch and I didn't have the mid afternoon "slump". I was very happy about that.
So, I had another shakeology drink when I arrived home at 3 and an apple. Went upstairs and thought "I'm hungry". However, since I had just eaten, I figured I'd wait 30 minutes before I did anything. I wanted to see if the "hungry feeling" would pass. It did. I had a piece of chicken and spinach salad for dinner and at 9 had my last shakeology shake. However, I have to say, I wasn't overly hungry for that last shake. I drank it since I know my calories were reduced and therefore I did bring in less nutrients than I normally would. Plus it is the worst feeling to be woken up due to being hungry. Didn't want to be raiding the fridge in the middle of the night!
One of the things that most folks said is that the 1st day was the hardest. And it was. I tried to stay busy and not think about food. But I kept thinking "I'm not going to have enough food to sustain myself". However, the shakeology drink is so packed with nutrients I didn't need to worry. I think any "reduced energy" feeling was in my head. I had a very productive day, in my shop and around the house. Right now it's almost my normal bedtime and I feel good. I do feel "lighter" having not eaten "regular" food. But I did miss the actual process of eating but I really don't feel deprived.
I've been told it's a great feeling when you finish it, physically, mentally and emotionally. I'm looking forward to experiencing that. I'm very glad I decided to do this.
I'm going to do Burn Circuit II in the morning and will log my modifications tomorrow. While I am not doing the workouts I would like to be doing, there is no reason I can't keep moving forward.
