Fresh, chocolate chip cookies. Ice Cream. Red Velvet cake. I've often enjoyed these sweets, many times with my friends. They are associated with good feelings. However, over the last few months, for me, a different feeling has started to become associated with these things.
Pain. Joint pain.
By accident, I discovered that some of the artifical sweeteners cause me pain. My rhuematologist told me that she is seeing more cases of joint pain associated with certain sweeteners. Then I noticed that sugar, something that is in practically everything we eat, causes me pain. But it didn't seem to be happening all the time. So, I kept eating it and the pain, the day after started to interfere with my training. I believe that there is a limit to how much sugar I can take in before I'm in pain. But instead of playing games with it, I've decided to just cut it out.
And I have to tell you, it's hard. I have a real sweet tooth. One of the things that has helped, immensely is Shakeology. I drink it daily. It curbs my "sweet tooth". I've also come to rely on it as a recovery drink.
I've also used Beachbody's Energy and Endurance drink. And I didn't just decide, "oh, Beachbody makes them, so I need to drink these products!". I, actually, contacted one of the creators of Shakeology and asked him very pointed questions about the contents and how it was made. Darin Olien was wonderful in his response. It wasn't canned and since he wasn't working directly for BB he had no reason to be dishonest. I believed him and, on top of that, Beachbody gives a 30 day money back guarantee. How can you go wrong with that?
Basically, what all this is teaching me is that I need to pay attention to my nutrition, on a daily basis. This isn't about dropping a few pounds, (though that would be nice!) it's about being healthy.
It's about becoming educated.
I investigate things that will impact my training. You should, as well. Ask questions, take responsibility for your health. Make healthy choices and you will find, as I have, that you feel better, on the inside, as well as the outside. And when you feel better, life just becomes an entirely wonderful experience.
