The Journey

Winding down??

As EVERYONE in my life knows, my Olympic tri is at the end of the month.  And I've been thinking about "what comes next?"  Oh, I know for next season what I'm planning but what about right after?

Wendy wrote a great article about this subject.

I use to think that the only way I could get motivated to workout was having a race goal.  The problem with that is, once the race is over, what do you do?  Wendy once told me that she races because she trains.  That was different than how I viewed it.  I say "was" because her comment made me think about staying motivated.

Right now I am following a training plan that goes right up to the day of my race.  And after that, the calendar is blank.  But I've already started "planning" out what I'm doing next.  No, not a race, but an even bigger goal, my health.  I've made no secret about the fact I would like to drop some fat.  I realized that my reason is to help my joints, less weight is less strain when I run, less weight is less stress when I bike up hills and less weight will make my body operate more effectively.

So, while I have trained for 6 months for this upcoming race, it's not the end for me.   It's just another step toward my goals.   While my goal of completing 140.6 miles in one day is never far from my heart, the "goal" of working out to have a healthy life is an even bigger reward.

  1. I often train for races too. I'm actually looking forward to the day after my marathon, when my calendar is blank. I can do whatever I want! Not the same as what you are saying, but still a different type of motivation like you said!
