Les Mills Pump Workout review

I asked a good friend of mine to share her experience with this workout.

Hello, my name is Amy LaFollette and I have always been an active person. In grade school, high school, and even college (intramurals) I played every sport there was to offer. Once I got out of college, I was always playing volleyball, running or hiking.

All that came to a halt last October when I had knee surgery. After surgery, I went to therapy and found out that in addition to the surgeon taking out part of my meniscus, he also found fractures on my tibia bone which meant a longer recovery than originally expected. My therapist told me running and volleyball would have to be put on the shelf for at least 6 months to a year. I was very disappointed but I sucked it up and started rehabbing my knee.

In February of this year, I was in a car accident which separated my shoulder and bruised my femur bone right above my almost rehabbed knee. Another setback…great! Needless to say, with little to no fitness activity since October, I was getting stir crazy! I was constantly trying to see what kind of exercises I could do each week during my Physical Therapy. My Therapist kept saying I could only do low impact…no running, hiking, or volleyball (all the things I love).

Ever since I have been in therapy, I have been doing research to find out what would be the best workout for me to get back into exercise. The more I read, the more I learned that lifting weights was going to be a better road for me and my recovery. I found a 90 day workout called Les Mills Body Pump by Beachbody. It boasts high repetitions and low weight, much like what I was doing in therapy.

I asked my Therapist if he thought it would be a good idea if I tried this workout and he said yes. Needless to say I was super pumped (no pun intended) and I ordered the program immediately. I am on Week 3 of the Les Mills Body Pump and I love it! The plan is laid out for you and the instructors take you step by step the first week so you do not have any questions.

What I really like about it is whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or expert in fitness, you can customize this workout to meet your needs. If it seems too easy, I can always add more weight to get a bigger burn. Being a working Mom, I also like that the workouts are less than an hour. I can pop the DVD into the player, follow along and before I know it, I am finished. My therapist has really been impressed with my progress since I started the Les Mills program and I am SO happy that I am active again!
