The Journey

Big dreams.....

The Timex Multisport Team is a team of Elite athletes and Professional triathletes.  Hundreds of athletes apply, most are turned down.  The Team is currently comprised of about 50 athletes from around the world. There are many amazing athletes on that team.  Wendy has been part of that team since 2010.

This year, Timex decided to create, what they call, the Timex Factory Team.  It was established so that more of the multisport community could experience being on a team.  I've known about it for a while but "knew" it was out of my grasp.....or was it?

A few weeks ago, I started to play with the idea of applying.  I read as much as I could find about it and then asked Wendy what she thought.  Her answer was pure Wendy....."it won't hurt to try, don't live your life in fear.  the worst they can say is no."  She was right.  I mean, I wasn't going to lose anything by applying, maybe a little of my pride if I was turned down, but really, even that wouldn't be a big deal.

You know what the strangest part was?  That I was thinking of applying.  Me, the person who never thought they'd be any type of athlete.  Me, the person who doesn't have lifelong experience in racing.  Me, a person who is working on dropping some body fat.  Me, the person who's dream of becoming a triathlete, has finally come true.

So, I applied.  I told them I didn't have a great deal of race experience but I had a great deal of drive to be the best triathlete I could be.  I also said, I felt I could be an inspiration to others.  A few folks told me that, because of watching me, they had, finally, taken steps to race in their first triathlon.  As someone who started their athletic career later in life, I felt I could help stop people from thinking "I'm too old to do that".  And that I have a strong desire to give to others because so much has been given to me.

About one week later, I recieved an email with the words "Congratulations!" in the subject line.  It was from the Timex Factory Team.

It's true, if you never ask, the answer is always "no".  So, my challenge to anyone reading this is, "Is there a question you need to ask to achieve your dream?"  What's stopping you from asking?  Fear?  Take a chance, you never know, the answer may surprise you.
