The Journey

Yup, I'm still around

Life has been crazy lately!!!  Between working two part time jobs, which are physically demanding and "re-learning" how to swim, my life is busy.  I think it will finally get back on track soon.  I have been staying in touch with Wendy.  We don't "officially" start training together until January but she is a great deal of support for me now.  I have so many questions about the whole swimming thing.

And I so want to start Insanity!  However, I am really feeling like I need to finish Chalean Extreme.  Due to the ongoing issues with my leg, I never gave it a far shake.  And since my knee is giving me no problems, I think I need to start it, yet again, and this time, finish it!  Then I will continue on and work on Insanity.

Right now my entire focus is to get better at swimming.  I am working on the breathing part, which is not as difficult as I thought but requires me to "relax" and not over think it, something I have a strong tendency to do!  I remember when I learned to ski, if I "over thought" it, I wiped out.  If I just relaxed and let me body do what it knows to do, I had a much more pleasant day.  I believe it's the same with swimming.

Wendy said the length of my workouts aren't as important, at this stage of my training, as the frequency.  Weekends are difficult due to my working, so I'm swimming 4-5 days/week.   The Y is the only pool in this area and the weekends are pretty packed there.  I'm an early morning workout person, I have found it's a great way to start my day.  Plus, then if "life" gets in the way, I have my workout, out of the way!  I've come to find out there are very few folks who are in the pool at 7 in the morning, during the week, so it works great for me.

As I mentioned, my job in the kitchen is taxing.  I make granola for a small company and there are only a few of us to do it.  So, last week, I was thinking of how I could "recover" from it, because it is truly a workout!  I spoke to Kris and decided to try the BB recovery drink.  It arrived today.  Tomorrow, I'm starting the day swimming and then in the kitchen for 8 hours straight.  I'll try it right afterward and report back on how it does.  I have a feeling it's going to do the trick!

So, I've just been "working out", no set schedule or major objective, just getting use to being in the water, and getting a run or bike ride in when I feel like it.  Wendy said I don't have a "true" off season.  And she wrote a great article about that.  Even the pros don't take much time "off".  The loss of fitness happens quickly.

Right now this kind of working out is fine.  But I know me and I need structure.  And come January, I have no doubt that working with Wendy will provide that.  After all, the woman not only made it to Kona, but finished 1st in the overall category.  She knows a thing or two about training structure.  :)   I can't wait to start training with her.
